A PDF to Text converter extracts every readable word from a PDF's pages and saves it as a plain .txt file — no formatting, images or layout, just the text itself, in reading order.

This is useful whenever you need a document's content rather than its appearance: pasting a passage into an email, searching a long report for a specific phrase using a plain-text editor, feeding a document into another tool that only accepts plain text, or simply archiving the words of a document independently of the PDF format itself.

Extraction works on the PDF's actual embedded text layer. A PDF created from a word processor or exported directly from an application has that text layer already; a PDF that is really just a scanned photograph of a page does not, and produces little or no extractable text, since there is no underlying text to read — only a picture of one.

Businesses extract text from reports and contracts for quick keyword searching or to repurpose content elsewhere. Individuals pull the text out of a form or letter to paste into another document.
